KIWANIS CLUB OF FRIDAY HARBOR

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.
Kiwanis Club of Friday Harbor serves the San Juan Islands here in beautiful Washington State. If you live here in the Islands, you may have enjoyed the Pig War Picnic we sponsor every 4th of July! Great food, great music and fun had by young and old.

The 2024 Pig War Picnic was a resounding success! After relocating to the County Fairgrounds on Argyle Avenue, the event exceeded all expectations in size and attendance. To enhance the experience for 2025, we’re excited to announce expanded hours, more food offerings, additional activities, and a collaboration with the Port for a full afternoon of family fun.
What’s New for 2025
• Improved Event Layout: Redesigned fairgrounds to reduce lines and wait times.
• Extended Hours: Now from 11:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
• More Music - Live Performances by The Henry Rose Band and The Dangerfields.
• Family Favorites: 3 legged races, sack races, egg toss, and a watermelon contest.
• Expanded Food & Beer Garden: More vendors, more variety, and increased seating.
• Parking & Shuttles: Parking is available with complimentary shuttles to and from the port. Leave your car for the day and make this your home base!
Proceeds benefit the families of Friday Harbor. In 2024, $24,000 in scholarships was awarded to 20 graduating seniors. Vendor applications for the Bite of San Juan are now open. Space is limited, with priority given to returning vendors, and then on a first come first served basis.

The Bite of San Juan will be expanded for 2025. Modeled after the Bite of Seattle, it is a way to taste a variety of food from local restaurants and food vendors. As this was our first year, we did not expect the attendance to be so high, and the lines were too long. As a result, we have remodeled the layout to be the same as the County Fair, allowing more food vendors, larger space and reduced waiting times. We have added more seating arrangements and expanded the eating areas with more tables and chairs, shaded eating areas and a larger beer garden. We are offering an expanded menu including, authentic Mexican Carnitas with homemade tortillas, Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Kosher Hot Dogs, Corn on a stick, Strawberry Shortcake, Ice Cream Sundaes, Cake Walk and Beer Garden.

FUNDRAISING
The Kiwanis Club puts more than $25,000 a year back into the local economy through our toy drive, the scholarships we give annually and the many local events we participate in that support Island Rec, other local organizations and our local children.
Kiwanis is an organization of volunteers dedicated to changing lives... but to do that, you have to wear the right attire :-)
WHAT WE DO

COMMUNITY SUPPORT
Kiwanis helps out the community through donations. The Family Resource Center received a check in the amount of $5,000 from the Kiwanis Club of Friday Harbor for their work in the community. The Family Resource Center is the clearing house for San Juan Island and provides many services for children on the island. This was the largest single donation made by the local service club and they were pleased to be able to donate a sizable amount to such a worthy organization

SCHOLARSHIPS
We were very pleased to give $24,000 this year to 20 graduating seniors who will use the scholarships to attend colleges or trade schools all around the country.
Over the last eight years, Kiwanis has provided over $150,000 in scholarships. With a senior class of 45 students, Kiwanis was able to award most of them with a scholarship to continue education at a college or a trade school. President Sharon Hooper stated, “I can think of no better gift than helping young people to continue their education. With a good education, all kinds of doors can be opened that will have profound effect upon their lives. Every little bit helps when you head off to college for the first time. The local Kiwanis Club feels fortunate to be able to play a small part in helping 15 local students start the next big phase of their lives.
